The DudleyBoy and I went and saw Hoodwinked yesterday. The animation was Jimmy Neutron level, but the idea was clever, there were some good jokes, and the delicious Patrick Warburton voiced the wolf.

Saw "Jarhead" yesterday and I totally loved it. Mendes totally did it again. It's not as great as AB or RtP (to all the insiders ;) ), but it was freakin' great.
I love the music selection and some scenes were absolute brilliance (the freeze-frame of Gyllenhaal's head against the chalk board while "Don't Worry, Be Happy" plays or the scene near the end where Sarsgaard totally loses it because they're not allowed to shoot the officers).
Great actors, amazing directing.

5/5 plus one star for a masterpiece. :)

Brokeback Mountain; Roll Bounce; Junebug; and The Incredibles for the umpteenth time.

There may be a movie that would work as a double-feature for Brokeback Mountain, but sadly, Roll Bounce was not it. (Awesome seventies soundtrack, though.)

Mrs. Henderson Presents.

Twee, sometimes almost unbearably so, but Dame Judy still made me cry a few times.

Did y'all know Christopher Guest is in this?

I got about half an hour into the Chumscrubber before turning it off. I'll finish it later, because I hate not seeing a film all the way through, but I'm really not looking forward to it. Yikes, what a terrible film.

I saw, on big screen:
the three burials of melquiades estrada--liked the acting and the directing, the writing was weak though.
the wild blue yonder--werner herzog's latest documentary, kinda in the vein of lessons from the darkness. the images were very strange and awesome but some parts of it were a bit slow.
journey into the bliss--a superweird german scifi fairytale that is really crass and innocent at the same time. look it up. it's got talking animals and robots suits and sexy grandmas and gore and puss and everything in between.

on dvd:
the ice storm--good movie
little dieter needs to fly--amazing movie.

Superman II. Not as good as the first. Not enough Gene, for one thing. I'm curious to see Richard Donner's cut.
Center Stage. Pretty entertaining. The lead reminded me of Ione Skye. But blonde.
A Clockwork Orange. So well crafted, but another movie to go on the list of "I can't imagine ever wanting to watch this movie again."
The Fabuluous Baker Boys. Wonderful script from Steve Kloves. Perfect casting too.
The House of Yes. As you can see from my sig line, I did enjoy this one. How I love Parker Posey.
Made. Confession: I still haven't seen Swingers. But I will soon, after seeing this.
The Iron Giant. Too many mixed themes, I would say. But the theme of free will made me happy. Great animation, too.
The Right Stuff. Exceptional. Why space? It's what's next.
To Live and Die in L.A.. Crap.
Highlander. Strange how this movie seems so much cooler when you're 12.
Training Day. I like it more each time I see it.
Silverado. The cast and the genre deserve better.
A Chorus Line. I didn't know anything about this before watching it, other than that it was a musical about a musical. I was very much surprised how much I loved it.
The Accused. Great performance from Foster. Those POV shots in the flashback were very effective.
About Last Night. "You think she's a pro?" "Well, at this point, we don't know." Good stuff.

KUmar - first of I commend you on your good taste re: A Chorus Line. heh. I havet' seen it for years but Bob Fosse -- what can I say. IT was edgy in its day, emotionally raw,and bucked convention.

OH, and I realize that it took alot of courage to say you liked a musical. Bravo!

The Accused-- so very harrowing that I couldn't watch it again. I think it was the most upsetting film about rape I"ve ever seen and I guess that means, it was really good.

Granted, I don't like most musicals. I have that silly problem where I don't understand why they're singing. It's always such a sudden departure from reality, and, while I usually like the songs, the movies just don't sit right with me.

But that's what was so great about A Chorus Line. They're singing and dancing (even if it's still a departure from reality) because the choreographer wants to get to know how they are, as opposed to just dancers auditioning for a part. He wants them to be themselves, to see who they really are. But that is who they are. They are performers. They sing, and they dance. That's what they do.

And it wasn't Fosse. Original musical was by Michael Bennett.

Fosse is a choreographer . BUt hmnn.. maybe I am off. haven't seen it since I cared so much abotu such details.

ON EDIT _- Damn, sorry. Can't believe I messed up on that:

In 1976 Michael Bennett conceived, directed, and choreographed A Chorus Line. When it opened on Broadway it was an immense hit that stayed on the Great White Way for nearly 15 years. Bennett also happened to be one of Bob Fosse's protégés. So, it was bizarre that at the 1976 Tony Awards, Bennett's musical about dancers trampled all over Fosse's newest musical - shutting out the Fosse show. The show that Fosse had created, directed, and choreographed was about two killer broads who are stuck in the Cook County Jail - a musical called Chicago.

I'm not big on musicals on the whole either, but my personal fav. is Hedwig and the Angry Inch. It's more of a punk rock musical and has some *ahem* adult themes, but it's very good. I recommend it highly to one and all.

hey, I know this has nothing to do with this thread, but I didnt want to start a whole other thread for it, but ANYway...

Catherine Keener was on Charlie Rose last night and she said that she's working with Spike Jonze again on Where the Wild Things Are. She said she'll play Max's mom in the movie, who's looking for him, and 6 actors will "perform" the parts of the wild things and teh Jim Henson company will build big puppets for them. says it's gonna film in New Zealand. sounds neat-o.

but back to this thread... hhmm... what the hell was the last movie I saw...? Oh, it was Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World and it was pretty good.

Cool! It seems like for-e-ever that I've been hearing about Wild Things being turned into a movie. And the Jim Henson company? Yay!

Just saw Transamerica. Eh ... what you would expect. Something that threw me is that Felicity Huffman's therapist was played by Elizabeth Pena, and whenever I heard her voice I wondered when Mirage got a new career.

(They showed a preview for Mel's new Mayan adventure. Seriously, you could not pay me to see this movie. Go ahead -- offer me twenty bucks. I will turn you down flat.)

No. It looked all kinds of ick. When I was trying to 'splain it to the DudleyKids, I realized the only Mel movie I've ever liked is Chicken Run. The DudleyGirl says that doesn't count, though, because you don't actually see Mel.
