Ha ha, yea I know it's Rodriguez. I don't know what made me think of Romiro. I really don't think he's bad. I've only seen the stuff he's done with Tarantino though.

tarantino was great in "desperado" and "from dusk till dawn" was also decent, but i loathe the mariachi-trilogy and the spy kids-crap. "sin city" was very good, but he pretty much just brought the comic to screen exactly as it was on paper and he also had two co-directors on that one.

Highwaters: it's The Passion of Joan of Arc, by Carl Dreyer. Early 1930s, I think. The Criterion DVD is the fantastic; watch it with the new music written for it (the dvd gives you the option of watching it silent or with the music - the director never specified that any particular music had to accompany it).

Thanks, slint! I hope they have it. Dreyer should be enough for them to locate it. These guys at my store know their poo. It's like having my very own Olwiggim and none of the Blockbuster B.S. Heaven.

I forgot one movie when I originally posted on this thread, but reading something online reminded me: Scott Frank's The Lookout.

So I waited a couple of days, hoping someone would post in this or the last movie thread so I wouldn't have to double post, but that hasn't happened.

Another addition to the best movies of the year:

The Bourne Ultimatum. I love every ass-kicking non-stop action-packed second of it. As a big fan of the genre (a couple of the older Racers might be aware that I run a James Bond fan site as well), I really think this is one of the best I've ever seen. Kudos, Paul Greengrass. You've created a classic. Oh, and thanks for slightly toning down shaky cam!
