If you're into really long reads, In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust! I just started it and I already love it! It's in The Life Aquatic actually.

The Magnificent Ambersons is pretty good. It relates to Tenenbaums with the title and the declining elite family. I didn't really like the ending too much, but the rest of it is pretty solid.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon, it's fantastic. Also check out Salinger and Tom Robbins.

The selected works of T.S Spivet by Reif Larson. I thought it was great.

Michael Chabon - The Yiddish Policemen's Union - not very Weslike, I suppose, but very funny and a good intro to Chabon if K&K is too much.

Lew McReady - The Minus Man - Owen Wilson plays a serial killer in the movie version of this novel about a merciful serial killer. The book is great, the movie is about thirty mins. too long.

John Cheever - Bullet Park
