In the past year, I've noticed several references to Rushmore in song titles/band names. I'm not sure if there's been a thread for this already (couldn't find one), but I thought it might be interesting to hear some of these various references to Wes Anderson's films. Ones I can think of off the top of my head:

1. There's a hardcore band called KITE FLYING SOCIETY on Eulogy Recordings.

2. Another hardcore band, EVERY TIME I DIE, has a song called "She's my Rushmore".

3. There's actually a pop punk label called Rushmore Records. They have a logo that kind of looks like a school shield (though it doesn't really resemble anything in the film).

oh. and I posted this in the music section and not the Wes Anderson section because I figured this is where the music fans would be. I guess it goes without saying that pretty much everyone ere likes Wes.

Place clever/witty saying or movie quote here.
Edited by: WasThatLatin at: 4/4/05 3:39 pm

I've seen Kite Flying Society before. I live in Florida and they were either from here, or just played down here a lot. Not large venues, they actually played at my friend's house several times. Nice guys, nice name, ok hardcore music.

Sometimes we quote President Lincoln or Richard Gere. Depends on the political climate.

What a sweet commentary on a hardcore band.

I wish I had something to add regarding the thread's topic. But I don't.

There is an emo band from Chicago called Fall Out Boy (a nice simpsons refrence). The first song on their album Take this to your grave is called "Tell That Mick He Just Made My List of Things to Do Today". Alot of people who like emo think their good.

Really?!

That's titled in the way of Mothersbaugh (i.e. Tell Anthony I Love Him, and Goddammit, I'm In.) Cool.

Welcome to the board Stack Shot Abraham. Please don't hate me if I start calling you Stack.

Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades by Brand New.

I read an article about Fall Out Boy once, they said they watch Rushmore together all the time, it is one of their favorite movies.

Strange how every reference seems to be to Rushmore but not the other films. Actually maybe not so strange, as I think more people connect to Rushmore than some of his other films. I don't want start a firestorm here, I just get the feeling that the film seems to be dear to more people out in the world. Maybe not on this board, but out in the general population.

Place clever/witty saying or movie quote here.

There is a really great duo who go by the name Department of Eagles. They have a song called "The Curious Butterfly Realizes he is Beautiful" that has a sample of Anderson saying "Hi, I'm Wes Anderson." I don't know what the sample is from, but the song is very cool. Their music is def worth checking.

I know it's been mentioned in other threads, but let's not forget the band caled "Go Mordecai". Although their music is pretty forgettable to me.

Chelse, it's possible you overestimate my understanding of the soundtrack compiling biz. :) I don't notice unless I'm paying attention to that sort of thing.

What is UP 40-oz!? Long time no see!

I wonder if they sampled it from either of the Criterion commentary tracks.

Yea, I was going to post somehting like this a month ago. But I got lazy.

Fall Out Boy rocks. And the "tell that mick.." songs title got me in to them. Also I;'ve heard of Rushmore records and emailed them asking if they were inspired by Rushmore.. Of course they were, I'm sure.

Everytime I die isn't too good. But not that bad I guess..

Also there's a band called The Done Deals. They are small time though. But that is coolness.

(there's a band call the boys at pencey prep, and thats a catcher in the rye reference)

Has anyone heard of A DAY AT THE FAIR?

I just found out they have a song called...
"And my name's Dignan, so what"

It's on their album "The Rocking Chair Years"

Kinda good song.

On another site someone posted a link (I'll try and find it) to a song called Luke Wilson dance party.

Kind of like a punky new wave sort of deal...

Your brother is more famous but he never danced just like you
You found out Inez loved you and your body was set in motion
(something something something, a line I don't remember)
You don't have to be the boring guy in all the movies
LUKE WILSON DANCE PARTY!

I'm pretty sure that's all the lyrics minus that part I don't remember.
It was a fun song.
