i don't know if there's already a Tom Waits thread back there somewhere, but i'm listening to foreign affairs right now, and it's so good it hurts. <p>"Do you...enjoy... knives?" - Harold Chasen</p>

Tom Waits is so good. Genius. The Black Rider, holy shit. Also, I am very partial to Closing Time which has my alltime favourite Tom Waits song, I Hope That I Don't Fall in Love with You. Hmmmmmmm nice.

I pretty much only like the songs he did for Down By Law. But they're awesome. <p><!--EZCODE LINK START--><a href="http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mycollection.asp?alias=GraemeHill">My DVDs</a><!--EZCODE LINK END--></p>

if you dug all the songs on Down by Law that Tom did, pick up Raindogs. they're all from that record, i think. i'm not even sure if they're on the soundtrack album, i thought that was all John Lurie. but i could be wrong, i don't have it.

tom waits is possibly the greatest songwriter i've ever heard. he can instantly put you in the middle of a carnival freakshow with one song or in a smoky bar at three am with the next.
'small change got rained on/with his own 38' ??? i mean really...

I've heard all numbers of Tom Waits songs, and think he's the bees knees. Recently I'd just heard 'Way Down in the Hole', which happens to be the opening credits for the HBO show "the Wire". Reminded me that I needed to get all of his albums sooner or later. "Earth Died Screaming", hoo hah. Classy.

So time has passed, and I now own 8 Tom Waits albums, all bought within a 2 or so month span. He's just about my third favorite musician ever (behind dylan + the clash). It's all his post-Swordfishtrombone stuff, but damn it's just astoundingly brilliant. Hes gotta be the best artist workin' in music these days. And that's impressive, he's been at it a long time.

Fave is a tie between Mule Variations and Bone Machine.

You're so... ridiculous. And boring.

Oh, I'm growing tired of your labels and you're snobbery.

Haven't heard any music by him but I liked him in the Jarmusch-movies he was in ("Down By Law", "Mystery Train").
Pretty good actor and he looks cool. <p>------------------

I love Tom. My favorite song of his is "Big in Japan." I put it on in the morning to start the day.

I don't mean to be a tool or anything, but Tom wasn't in "Mystery Train". He did do the voice of the DJ on the radio though, sort of a reprise of his "Down by Law" role.

rain dogs is good. the whole franks wild years trilogy is great. of the three i like franks the best, swordfishtrombones the least and rain dogs is right in the middle. but almost all of toms stuff is worth checking out. <p>"Pudding can't fill the emptiness inside me... but it'll help!" - Captain Murphy (Sealab 2021)</p>
