i'm rather sure there isn't a thread on THAT yet, or, if there is, i didn't find it. either way, since tomorrow is my first day at the new job, thought i'd start one up for you guys.

do you like your job? don't have to specify what you actually do, but do you enjoy it at least? or find it tolerable? or hate it and wish you were dead instead.

i dunno... so far i've hated all the jobs i had. and i've had quite a few, from fast-food service to office-work and babysitting. i dunno, the repetition of it kills my braincells. plus, i am anti-social.

anyways... wish me luck. hopefully i'll be able to hold on to this one for a little longer than my 4 month record. :)
____________

I buy and resell real estate. So I'm self-employed I guess. But I'm also still in school so I haven't had enough time to get sick of it yet.

I teach music lessons and currently have been downgraded to one student. He has no idea what he's doing. I don't even know why I teach. My temple explodes like (vague reference here) Stressed Eric everytime his sock clad foot taps thumpily off beat on the carpet.

I'm still in high school so I have no real job, although I'm looking for one. I haven't thought about getting one because I've been busy, and haven't needed money, seeing as I make enough every weekend with music to last me the week. But its about time.

i am a dispatcher for campus security at the college i attend.i basically get to use the computer for hours at a time and occasionally answer calls or register cars.i basically have it so i don't feel entirely useless and it gives me a small amount on which to live until i can get a new car and a new job that pays more than peanuts.it's also less than a minute from my dorm so it's not bad but it isn't great.

I can't even begin to think about knowing how to answer that question.

I like my jobs. I've had some crappy ones, too, though.

I'm an associate producer for a couple of theatre companies here in Toronto during the day. I also indepently produce small films and theatre (although, I'm starting to really steer away from that because I'm not enjoying it. I hate being in charge.) At night I work in a nightclub where the people are really lovely, and where management actually gives a shit about its staff. Which makes ALL the difference. Plus the customers can be fun, and loads of cute musicians play there.

Lately, I'll be earning extra money playing gigs. (I write songs and play them on the guitar.)

I was just thinking the other day that I rather like my plot in life at this moment in time. Yay!

Good luck on your first day, morrigan!!

this is an interesting insight to everyone, nice thread!

i'm a buyer-slash-till-monkey at a giant record store in the city, it drives me nuts mostly because of management's policy of hiring people who don't like music hence know nooooooothing. i work with a couple of guys who reallly know their shit and are the angriest guys in the world, so we have a great laugh.

i also, as many of you already know, present radio shows and dj rock clubs (played a blinder last night, best set i ever did!)

that's what i really live for.

ahh jobs

well, Im a full time theater and film student, but also..

I'm an RA... yep, I'm the narc... I have my own room for free.
I'm a cool RA though, I don't get in anyone's business unless they are blatantly breaking the rules... also I make cool bulletin boards... this month's boards all feature scenes from old school.

And I'm a shop assistant. I work in the scene shop in the theater department. This has been the best job so far of my life. I learn practical skills like carpentry and welding, and its been really valuable to see how a project goes from being an idea in someone's head to being something tangible... constructing sets isn't something I want to do for the rest of my life, but I'd much rather be doing that than a desk job. It also taught me that I am capable of things I didn't think I was... I got signed on as a scenic painter ( a definite girl job) and on the second day the boss was like, "Hey, I need you to build steps to this porch... here are the plans" I told him I couldn't do that, and he said, "Yes you can"

and he was right... I could.

My job sucks ass, big-time. It's not the job so much as it is the people : the customers and the staff. I want to choke the shit out of most of my staff on a regular basis, so that's not very healthy. I have some good employees every now and then, so they're not all bad.
I also do some freelance video editing at nights and on weekends. We do some shoots from time to time, but my schedule doesn't usually permit me to go on those.

I like my work, but hate my job if you know what I mean. You gotta watch out for that -- sometimes the work is good but the structure you have to work in gets you down :\

ALSO once you have a job that pays decently it is tough to leave it ... that is a dangerous situation to be in.

AND another thing -- I stil don't know what I want to be when I grow up so I have a day job plus I do other thingies on the side. I like my other thingies more than the Job but .. see above.

there’s never any time to have too much self-doubt anyway-- Wes Anderson

I have a pretty good job I guess and most of the time I do enjoy it. The only downside is that some of the people I work with aren't that nice. I suspose you get that in every job.
Any time I get really depressed about it I just remember the assortment of crappy jobs I had before this one and it usually makes me feel better.

I work in the campus Library as an assistant reference librarian. That means that I'm supposed to be one of those people who you go to the day before your final 10 page paper on whale psychology is due and I pat you on the back and say "never you mind" and, with a flick of my fingers, pull you up a three page list of sources complete with mla style citations....but somehow, in my almost school-year-and-a-half of working there, I've managed to miss actually learning how to do that kind of thing. So basically, my job consists of avoiding human interaction at all cost and looking busy, mostly by shelving books at a snail's pace and shelf reading the bajeezus out of the stacks.

I don't really like the structure of my job, well ok, I hate it, but I love the setting and I love, love the people. They're the best bosses I've ever had, and if it weren't for them I probably wouldn't still be working there, for many reasons. I wont be working there next year though. Gotta keep movin' on...

well, uh...we fucking stole it man

Good luck in your new job Morrigan ! being anti-social doesn't help the working environment though, but I'm in the same boat.

When I was 10, I got a job as a paperboy. Did that for seven years. Best job ever man. I would do it for free now. I cant wait to have a kid to get one for and then when he/she wants a day off, I'll do it no problem.

I have worked in a kitchen at a hospital since I was 17. The recent boss is a biotch but I have a lot of fun there. Most people think that hospital food is shitty but those people are usually patients and they are usually sick so nothing will taste good. I have learned to cook pretty well though because we also have to feed the workers through the cafe so that food is usually pretty creative.

Just recently I became a Real Estate Appraiser and I really like that too. I get to spend some time in an office and some time in the field so that's cool. Also, the job doesn't take that long and I can make my own hours. I also buy houses and fix them up and resell them. I am finishing one right now. We did pretty well. Me and my partner are going to buy some land and have a house built and then sell that, I'm anxious to see how that turns out.

This is a very cool thread. I love hearing what all you freaks do for a living.

I tried to use "rockin' the town like a moldy crouton" as my senior quote back in 95, but they didn't print it. Bastards.

edgarfindshispurpose, I remember Stressed Eric! cool show.

I love my job. I'm a student but I work part time at a bookstore. the customers are crazy and annoying. "I need to find that book. you know it. I don't remember the title or the author, but it's about the guy and the place and the thing... you know." NO I FUCKING DON'T!

but the rest of the people who work there are great. I'm really lucky. it's a lot of fun.
