I must admit I'm glad that this seems to be his next project in line. The IMDB entry for The Fantastic Mr. Fox had been stagnant for far too long, TDL seems to already have some legs on it.

Fox Searchlight will release.

From The Hollywood Reporter (via AICN)

Fox joins Anderson on 'Darjeeling'

By Nicole Sperling and Borys Kit

Fox Searchlight is getting into the Wes Anderson business. The Fox specialty division will be the home of the writer-director's latest project, "The Darjeeling Limited," which will star Anderson vets Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman and Adrien Brody. Principal photography is set to begin at year's end in India.

The three will play brothers on a spiritual journey through India after the death of their father.

"Darjeeling" is based on a screenplay from Anderson, Schwartzman and Roman Coppola. Anderson and Coppola will serve as producers on the film.

Searchlight specializes in offbeat, quirky fare, which happens to be Anderson's trademark. Anderson's previous films, "Rushmore," "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou," were all made for Touchstone Pictures under the guidance of Nina Jacobson, former president of the Walt Disney Motion Picture Group.

Scott Rudin is producing through his Scott Rudin Prods. shingle in addition to Lydia Pilcher and her Cine Mosaic label. Pilcher recently partnered with Searchlight on Mira Nair's "The Namesake," also an India-based production based on the novel by Jhumpa Lahiri.

Wilson has appeared in all of Anderson's films, going back to his debut, "Bottle Rocket." He also co-wrote "Rocket," "Rushmore" and "Tenenbaums."

Schwartzman starred in "Rushmore." He will next be seen in Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette."

Brody, the newcomer to the Anderson fold, will next be seen in "Hollywoodland."

Anderson, Schwartzman and Wilson are repped by UTA and attorney Bob Wallerstein. Brody is repped by CAA.

Sounds good.

Wow! Concrete news of Wes' next film. I am officialy excited. I guess this means I will be checking this board regularly to get news as it trickles in.

If they are starting photography before the end of this year, I guess it's safe to say it will be released in December '07 (Wes seems to like those December openings).

I am very intrigued by the basic story line. It stikes me as somewhat Bottle Rocket-esque: a road trip with three guys where nothing really goes as planned.

I can't wait to hear the next tidbit.

Well, I found TLA disappointing, but still really good. This time I won't go in with the expectation to see the greatest film ever made. That'll always disappoint.

Wes forum, how I've missed thee all summer!

That has also been my experience, except for when I went to see TRT, which I was expecting to be great but it still managed to blow me away and led to me being here.

I've been locked out of posting on the forum for a long while, so here's some stuff I have saved up to post.

Jeffrey Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere has always been a close follower of Wes and Owen and he's had several recent posts on Darjeeling. None of it is really news at this point, but there are some interesting remarks and some of the posters in the comments seem to have some inside info (especially in the first link):

David Poland has read the Darjeeling script and offers some thoughts (though not really a review) in this post (mild spoiler warning):

The more I read about it ("it's set on a train and there will be lots of snow"), the more it sounds like it'll be influenced more by Powell and Pressburger than perhaps Hal Ashby or Truffaut and that era than his previous films have been. The tone, which I'm of course drawing from very little, seems like it could be kind of a cross between Black Narcissus (India), and The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (the train stuff reminds me of it, and the snow.) I think Wes is probably going to handle India like that film, and like Renior's The River did, which seems to fit with Wes' sense of wonderment and joy. Also if he follows those two examples, the film has the potentential to be very gorgeous.

I'm more excited than I was when it was initially announces. I hope we start getting some stills or a teaser trailer sometime early next year.

If the AmEx commercial was a sign of anything, it's that Wes still seems to be evolving as a filmmaker, and I hope this turns into a better movie than TLA, which while I think all of us love, definately has something lacking from it.

Unless I'm terribly mistaken, there are no trains, or, atleast, riding on them, in THE LIFE AND DEATH OF COLONEL BLIMP.

No I know, but the whole idea of shooting in a train with a lot of snow outsde for some reason reminded me of the outside shots with Deborah Kehr in Colonel Blimp.

I was tired and making connections based on nothing.
