yesss! my friend just called me on the way back from the chicago showing. he said roman didnt' have too much to say, but that he answered some more off topic questions that were interesting. i guess just when someone had a question about HC or TDL he would say, you know, 'wes would have to answer that for you..'

anyway, he said the short was great- very funny and enjoyable. i won't put any spoilers here -i didnt get many i didnt know i guess - but he did say that the film will be available starting tomorrow (apparently not tonight at midnight EST) for free, in the itunes store. i'm not sure i have that perfectly correct - maybe on apple's website though?... nope no luck there.

but, woot woot! my friend said he wasn't too excited for TDL, but that now he is.

other reports from the screenings/q+as?

I'm sending Edward Appleby an e-mail about the chicago screening, but it's taking a while with the pictures. Suffice to say, great short.

Awesome. Short (of course), but a really cool portrait of that couple. i looked up that hotel (Hotel raphael) and it is around 1,000,000USD a night. damn.

edit: umm, i wanted to look this up again just now, and i was the one who wrote this million dollars figure.. no idea where i got these numbers, but the highest price was like, 6,000 EUR per night, which at the moment, is about 8,000 USD a night. Sorry about that. source: http://miseajour.apicius.com/raphaelhotel/uk/tarifs.asp

Favorite moments/lines (I realize this is a long list for a 13 minute film):

(title scene)
"Sandwich avec.. how do you say grilled cheese?"
"I didn't say you could come here... " "Can I come there?" "Ok."
(Jason re. lights and ambiance)
"What's this music?"
(Natalie brushing her teeth)
(They both sit up and look when room service knocks)
"That was a long pause."
"I promise, I will never be your friend... ever."
"Want to see my view of Paris?"
(Natalie in just her socks)
(pan out to view for end credits)

I really loved this. It did feel very TRT. I can't wait for Darjeeling now. That little taste just wasn't enough.

This is perhaps a nerdy observation, but did anyone else notice the piece of luggage? I wonder if Wes did retakes to include those shots, seeing as the luggage was created specifically for TDL. From various articles I've read this was shot well before the film, and the connection between the short film and the then unshot (unfinished?) script wasn't immediately apparent.

knowing wes, and from an article w/ quotes from the designer, wes/eric may have had it planned out a couple years ago

Maybe it was all planned out, after all.

Am I crazy or does he have a picture of The Residents beside his I-pod?

Either it's just how it looked in the crappy quality on my computer, or Jason wasn't wearing shoes. He makes himself all nice, puts on the suit, and doesn't put on shoes or even socks! I love it.

Best Credit Award goes to... Suitcase Wildlife Drawings: Eric Anderson

Close second...Waris' Security credit. Did he provide security for the crew, or did I miss him in the film and he was standing somewhere as a security guard? That would have had to have been at the beginning, if anywhere.
