If you don't know, this was a Ben Stiller-produced sitcom pilot that never made it to air, but it can be found on the Internet. Owen is the voice of "Heat Vision," Jack Black's talking motorcycle. It's very funny.

If you do know about it, let's discuss it here!

I got a copy of it not long ago from one of our distinguished members here on the board (I don't want to say who, if he doesn't care, he can chime in) and it is pretty funny. It would be nice to see a show like this on network TV, but when "Inside Schwartz" is the wackiest thing you've got going, I don't think HVAJ would quite float. It's a shame. I really would love to see where Ben Stiller could have taken it. You know it would have gotten better and better. I mean look at the first Seinfeld, it was atrocious when you compare it to some of the later ones, it was just so awkward feeling, sort of like HVAJ. I'm not comparing the two shows, I was just using Seinfeld as an example we've all seen. I really would like to see network TV take a chance every once in a while though. I mentioned http://www.bobanddavid.com on a different thread, but you should check it out and read the section where Bob answers some questions. He talks quite candidly about how tough it is even at HBO for the higher ups to show some faith and take a chance. Interesting and insightful reading.

i have it and would be willing to trade VCDs to anyone that wants it. if you don't have anything to trade, i could set up a B&P offer....

best heat vision line:
"hey jack, 'member that time when i was human and we went down to mexico and got trashed on cheap tequilla, and you woke up with that 72 year-old lady, and she followed us to the border, and the border patrol wouldn't let us across until you kissed her?" rough i know, but i haven't seen it in awhile . . .

and i posted this a few months ago, but "listen lady, he pushed me over" is also instant classic material from owen . . .

Owen really steals the show. One of my faves is:

"Para-GONE. Jack, Jack, Jack...ParaGONE."

HEAT VISION (V.O.)
Jack says the Earth's shape is
mankind's curse, because we can never
reach our horizon. I say a round
planet is a gift. We can move forward
forever, and find a different horizon
every week. Goodnight.

.. for you, New Yorkers, you can see it on big screen:

from http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/60171.htm

" Next week, the pair, in conjunction with New York comedy collective Modern Humorist, take The Other Network to the Knitting Factory in New York to unveil unseen pilots from Judd Apatow (Freaks and Geeks), Conan O'Brien, Ben Stiller and Darren Star (Sex and the City), which feature Jack Black, Ron Silver John Larroquette, Ray Romano and Owen Wilson." <p>"Say a prayer for Surf Boy. Wherever he is."</p>

I have it on DVD, but that in conjunction with the others an d being on a bid screen, would be so damn cool (sorry, brain cramp, couldn't think of another adjective..my 16 yr old niece tells me that is old school)! <p>"There is a sense of well-being that comes from having a clear sense of life's meaning and a wholesome rhythm of labor, relaxation, and worship." text (Hutterites, Montana, 1987-1996) by Laura Wilson in "The Enclosed World"; APERTURE, Summer 1996 </p>

How'd you get it on DVD? Or is it just a bootleg you put on DVD?

Don't know about any body else, but I assume mine is a bootleg* copy. It it only 30 min. long and not a crisp picture quality, but the Owen voice is in rare form. I got it from a guy in Canada along with some Tenacious D stuff.

(*and before someone challenges me, no I don't condone that... but a girls got to do what a girls got to do when she has a fixation on the Texan and nasally sound of the talented OCW) <p>"There is a sense of well-being that comes from having a clear sense of life's meaning and a wholesome rhythm of labor, relaxation, and worship." text (Hutterites, Montana, 1987-1996) by Laura Wilson in "The Enclosed World"; APERTURE, Summer 1996 </p>

Cool. I just thought maybe there was an official, good-quality version I hadn't heard about.

Para-GONE. Jack, Jack, Para-GONE. I love that line.
