Hello all -

Thought I'd post this as it would be of interest to any BR fan. I recently did a mini-tour of several of the Bottle Rocket movie sites. I took pictures and attached still frames from the film for comparison. Check them out at

Up next, a Rushmore tour!

Later,
Duane

Lots and lots of free time, a digital camera, and 100 viewings of Bottle Rocket is how I found the fireworks stand. The only thing I had to go on was a tinzy Zenith sign in the background in the movie and a strangely shaped tree. Cruised a few roads going in and out of Hillsboro and found it. Found the gas station the same way...because there was a high school stadium in the background. Went to the only high school stadium within a 20 mile radius and there it was!!

Did you ever have the touch to lose??

Thanks for sharing. That is very cool. I love how the exact same trash can is there in the "Bob's gone...he stole his car" shot. Please share your Rushmore pictures when you make the trip.

Very cool!

Duane, you've got to get yourself a green velvet blazer, if you do Rushmore, and stick yourself in all the pics!

Yeah I really tried to make it to the Sidewalk festival. The people running it were very nice. I had done a lot of travelling last year going to other film festivals so it was just a matter of $$. I've heard great things about Sidewalk. If you'd like to see Up Syndrome, you still can, as the DVD will be available in a couple weeks. Keep checking the site, and when I do the Rushmore rounds, I'll be sure to post the link. Thanks for the comments...

Duane,

You have lived every Bottle Rocket fans' dream! Excellent work I might add. High intensity, great quickness! Do you live in Texas, or was the trip soley for the BR locals? Best of luck on the Rushmore tour...cant wait to see what you come up with. Good luck! <p>" I've been bathing with my friends off the coast of St. Bart's playing with spider monkey's and dropping acid...changed our whole perspective on shit. "--Hansel f/Zoolander</p>

I live in Austin which is about 2 hours away from Hillsboro. I've lived here since I saw B.R. in the theater and didn't know where the motel was until a couple years ago. Been meaning to make this tour for quite some time now...finally got around to it. Rushmore is up next!

hey...i've been kind of out of the loop...went and looked
at the pics. that's hilarious! my wife and i went to a
number of the sites and took pictures, and humorously
enough we did much of the same stuff you did. i'd be
interested in getting information on some of the sites
that i don't have information for. maybe you already
sent it to me and i got the e-mail and long forgot about
it. which is entirely possible.

but when you go to take the rushmore tour, you can
use some of the info on my tours pages to get you
started if you like...

Nice work. I have made two Bottle Rocket trips myself, about an 8 hour drive from where I live in Missouri.

The first time I went, there was still a fireworks stand in the exact same spot as in the movie.

The part owner of the motel in Hillsboro told us all kinds of stories about the filming of the movie.

Other locations we visited were Hinckley Cold Storage (now called the Texas Ice House), The Maplethorpe residence, Grace's school, the gas station in the middle of nowhere..... among others.

The pilgrimage has become an annual event with me and my friends.

I'll post some interesting stories about our trips later.

I'm glad I found this site, its great to be here!!
