Greetings, fellow Tenenbaumians! A couple of months ago, a kind soul on this board emailed me the impossible-to-find "Oscar Promo" tracks, and as a thank-you I have re-created the promo CD (with a couple of bonus tracks), and will offer it here for a very limited time. For FREE!
Here's the deal: I will snail-mail a copy of this CD (in a protective sleeve, no jewel case) to the first FIVE people who E-MAIL me (as opposed to responding here, because I don't check it every day) email@example.com
I will accept only ONE person from outside the U.S. Am I a xenophobic, freedom-fries-munching bastard? NO! But I am giving these away for absolutely NOTHING, and I ain't sending five of them overseas. The lucky person chosen (and indeed all five of the chosen) must promise to return here and make the same (or similar) offer; this way, eventually everyone who is interested in this important music will get to hear it.
I will have a simple cover made up, and will e-mail a PDF of it to whoever wants one.
Here's the tracklist, with a few notes:

(1) The track named "The Lindbergh Palace Hotel Suite" (track 2) is an earlier mix of track 18, which is on the currently available, longer soundtrack. The title was changed, most likely due to a copyright dispute, and the writing credits indicate that the MM composition for the film was based at least in part on a separate piece called "Sontata for Cello and Piano in F Minor" by another artist. The earlier mix is a little less polished, with the most notable difference being during the string swell at 1:18.
(2) Track 3, "Margot Returns Home," is a truncated version of the end-credits song, which I know as "Sparkplug Minuet, 3rd Movement." I don't know what the purpose of this track was, or if the title is accurate, since the music under the Margot-comes-home scene is the instrumental version of "Christmastime Is Here." But that was the info I was given, so I left it alone.
(3) The alternate titles I offer in parentheses come from wesanderson.org (now defunct), and were part of a "complete" music listing for the film. It was incredibly detailed, with timings and placements in the movie, so I tend to trust the titles it provides. I stuck to the "Oscar promo" titles I was given here to minimize confusion.
(4) Track 19, "Margaret Yang’s Theme (DVD mix)" doesn't really belong here, but I didn't think anyone would mind. It's a different mix from the one on the Rushmore CD, the main difference being the lack of accordion. A little bonus for the Rushmore completist!
There you have it. Remember -- only the first FIVE who E-MAIL me personally (don't forget to include your snail mail address) will get the CD. I'm giving this away, so no flames, complaints or rants please!
