I had mixed feelings about this movie, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

It moves well, it is funny, it has a decent soundtrack, and the performances are pretty good.

I'm not a big Will Farrell fan, but he had me, and the rest of the audience, laughing outloud.

IMHO, excepting the Anderson-directed movies, this is the best Luke Wilson movie and performance to date.

How does it compare to Todd Phillips' "Road Trip?"

I didn't see Road Trip, so I can't compare them, sorry!

But, the best way I can describe Old School is akin to Animal House. Not only in a similar storyline, but also in that I can't point a really good performance, or a really good plot, or a really good character, but, it was a good movie.

They make Craig Kilborn look like an ass, so it can't be all bad.

I liked all the will farrel parts, and liked the "ear muffs" but I thought it stopped being funny after they started the fraternity--then it just went all over the place and the film tried to focus on Luke Wilson's feelings and his life, but didn't go anywhere with that, didn't give either him nor Craig Kilbourn a chance to be funny. They had a line of supporting characters that all coulda been really funny--the skinny indian kid, the old asian businessman, the fat kid...etc., but all of them just remained in the background most of the time.
The ending was really choppy too, the girl just described what happened between her and her boyfriend to Luke? Not even an Adam Sandler revenge moment?
Sarah Tanaka was in it too, but like everyone else, she was underused because the halfway through the film it tried to find plot and gravity when they shoulda been replaced by raunchy offensive humour.

I agree with you, Pete, that the women characters were underdeveloped and some of the frat brothers could have had bigger parts. I didn't care for the person who played "Nicole", either.

The editing was very choppy, too.

BUT, since my expectations were so low going in, they were really exceeded and I think I would see it again just to catch the parts I missed because I was laughing.

Will Farrell has no shame!

Mr. Pibb is everywhere in knox-vegas.
Dr. Pepper is too prune-y and it makes my kidneys cry out, "no! Shoeshine, no!"
(actually, I made that last part up. My kidneys do not speak to me.)
Who are you tryin' to get crazy with, ese? Don't you know I'm loco?

Mr. Pibb fans yay! They don't have that stuff yet here in Pennsylvania, but I have that stuff when ever I get down to Virginia and below. But hey, if Macgyver is back on the air, maybe the stars are aligning, and will see it up here.

I can't tell the difference between Pibb & Dr. Pepper at all, and all the soda machines around here have both of 'em .. I go for cherry coke.

Oh, and also I saw 'Old School.' :) It was basically what I expected it to be, so I wasn't really disappointed. The Craig Kilborn ending thing could have been sorted out better (you're right, Pete) but I enjoyed seeing the Daily Show people and the Rushmore alumnus (alumna?) pop up. Will Ferrell's rhythmic gymnastics was great.

And there was so much ass, too!
