I think the best rock & roll artists are the acoustics, like Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, etc. Although I've always thought that calling them "rock & roll" artists seemed kind of silly, but then again, calling them "folk" artists wouldn't make much sense, either. I guess the proper term is "folk-rock," I don't know.

Anyway, I think musucians like Donovan, Nick Drake and James Taylor are the best thing about rock & roll. Oh, yeah, and the Beatles have some great acoustic music, too. Other great folk-rock musicians: John Denver, John Lennon (at times), Leonard Cohen, Don McLean and Gordon Lightfoot.

man, I think James Taylor is as cheesy as anything, and I don't really see any rock and roll bone in john denver, but I won't get into an argument about what constitutes as rock, I'm just saying.
right now M. Ward is a very good acoustic rock guy. David Garza, my man, my hero, has been a very good acoustic rock guy for years. beck's sea change had a lot of interesting acoustic stuff. seu jorge has a few acoustic songs on his new album "cru." brazillian dudes were always pretty good at rocking out acoustic. gilberto gil and ben jorge made an incredible album in the 60s that were just those two guys improv-ing acoustic ballads. I even thought India Arie's "acoustic soul" from a few years back was quite rockin'.
a lil' back in the days there was elliott smith and big star who were mellow acoustic dudes, then a lil' bit back from then was Jonathan Richman.

James Taylor isn't cheesy. He's just...very soothing. But that M. Ward guy is really good.

Heh, poor James Taylor. Nothing can ever redeem him in my eyes after that awful Mockingbird duet he did with then wife Carly Simon, like, bleugh!
One of the first songs I learnt on guitar though was Fire And Rain... :o

I have a nostalgic affection for James Taylor and Carly Simon both -- not so much for John Denver, but to each his own. I effing love Carole King. So eff off, the lot of you. ;)

Just tell who you like and try to be positive. It's a good thread. If you don't like it, do your duty and make it better. <p><!--EZCODE HR START--><hr /><!--EZCODE HR END--> I wish I had a million dollars ... HOT daaaawg!</p>

Come on, two top-ten hits that include the word "high" in the title? Please. The man was wild, let us all rock!

That's what I'm talkin' about Raleigh!

I have to add, and puh-lease don't pop me in the nose for this one, I really am liking the Jack Johnson. Yeah, the kind of all sound the same, but that just means ... well. I guess it means I like all I've heard. <p><!--EZCODE HR START--><hr /><!--EZCODE HR END--> I wish I had a million dollars ... HOT daaaawg!</p>

Dylan is the same type of thing. Sometimes acoustic, sometimes not. Neil's acoustic stuff still stands as some of the best music ever made, so he should count. <p>"Well I want to die." - Raleigh St Clair</p>

Sorry but I must defer to Raleigh on this re: James Taylor and donkey's ass.
