A lot of people who've listened to them have thought that they are just a complete ripoff of The Shins. Truth is, they wrote their music the same time as The Shins and just wound up sounding coincidentally similar. Though I love James Mercer and Company, the Fruit Bats have just risen to the number two spot on my list. Nicely-woven melodies, earthy lyrics, and the not-too-boring-not-too-crazy soothing music just appeals to me a lot.

Spelled In Bones is now one of my favorite albums ever.

Yea, the Fruit Bats rule... I interviewed Eric Johnson for the music trade I write for. He's pretty cool. He gave me some VH1 Storytelers type run downs on some of the tunes off Mothfuls. "Magic Hour" was his attempt at writing a 50s prom song.
