Relax, sit down
I'll kick that stool right out from under you
Well, then, I see you sitting outside
Well, I can do the same thing too

I'm an elementary school librarian, (but you guys already knew that since I talk about my job all the time) and I love my job sooo much. I love processing the books. And setting up book displays. And reading to the kids. And finding the perfect book for a kid. I like the "bee-boop" sound the scanner makes when I check out books. Shelving is satisfying. I like putting new mylar covers on old books so they look shiny-new again. I like giving out new books as prizes to the kids who remember to return their books. It's fun to hand out bookmarks. I cover paperbacks with clear contact paper to make them last longer, and after I'm done, I sometimes rub them on my cheek because they feel so nice and promising.

My dream job would be to do what I do full time.

Mandingo. I grock your mouth music. -- The Tick

oooh, Dudley, at the first library I worked at I got to run the books under the little lazer thing to check them back in. I don't know how many times I did it, but I NEVER got tired of that little "beep!" sound it made. I could do that all day.

Ooh ooh and sometimes when you scanned it, the computer next to it would go "ee-oop!" and a screen would come up saying it had been listed as lost, and I felt like I had saved the little guy, brought him back from the dead...and sometimes it would be on hold, and I'd get to fill out a streamer...

man, those were the days.

well, uh...we fucking stole it man

I basically LIVE in the high school library. Me and my friend Yuki have become the rulers of our little kingdom there. We could commit murder and the librarians would say "don't worry, they're in here everyday."

actually, hadn't really done anything... the computer i'll be working on hasn't arrived yet (i'm naming it eleanor zissou, it's settled), so i ended up folding/gluing take-away cardboard boxes for a restaurant. oh well... the ppl seem nice tho, which is good.

i wish i worked in a library...
____________

update about my job... or just an anecdote

today at work my boss made me drive the ruck to the lumber yard....

I haven't driven in 4 years, and the car I used to drive could fit inside of the truck... its a HUGE TRUCK... HUGE

so I go, and its fine... but then, as I'm loading 2x4s into the back, I have to open the door separating the cab and the back so that I can fit the boards all the way in...

as I'm pushing them in, I hear a little **tap** look up, and see that I've pushed too far, and BROKEN THE WINSHEILD of the truck....

luckily my boss is awesome... but boy did I feel like an idiot

I don't really have an official job, even more so because I'm taking a break from the whole teen critic gig.

I want to get a job over the summer though to save up for an iBook. Does anyone know if Barnes and Noble hires teens (I have ample library experience, if that means anything!).

oh man Buckley...last time I tried to drive a huge truck, it was on a very muddy farm, and I ran over and completely destroyed my father's bicycle, and then knocked down part of a fence. Yeah. I'm off big trucks for a while.

well, uh...we fucking stole it man

Sunset, I'm pretty sure BN hires teens. But ask for an application anyway. Doesn't hurt.

Here's an update on my job:

I go into work this morning, and the woman I work for has built me MY OWN OFFICE SPACE. She made me a desk, verithaned it and everything, bought me my own lamp and phone and file cabinets and a big bulletin board.

And she downloaded an album cover from my favourite band, and printed it, and cut it out, and pinned it to my bulletin board.

:\

I flipped. It was such a lovely surprise.
