Just an "off the wall" question for you guys out there. Now I know all of you love Wes Anderson, but what are your thoughts on the Coens? Personally, I think they're right up there with the best of the best, especially with their dialogue. The Big Lebowski by the Coens is right up there with Bottle Rocket in terms of dialogue, in my humble opinion...

anyway, just curious... also wondering who else you guys like in terms of movies? Any suggestions? I also love Christopher Guest's Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show... also Spinal Tap which is the same brand of humor... If you haven't seen all the Coen's bros. stuff plus those three C. Guest movies, check em OUT!!!!!

i was very pleased when the coens won the oscar for their screenplay for Fargo. that gives me hope that wes and company still have a chance this year...
guest, shearer, and mckean are working on a new mockumentary about folk music. there was an article about it on Mtv.coma week or so ago...
there is a link to it on the Flick Clack board. check it out.

thanks for joining! <p>"Does the fact that I'm trying to do it do it for you?"</p>

ChaGuana, you are a yankeeracer after my own heart. I would put all these writers/directors up there at the top and thank goodness I don't have to choose between them. I think all the movies mentioned can be found in in the vincinity of my home, either mine or my roommate's. Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy are spectacularly funny in their movies. I read that they are making a new one starting in may about sixties folk singers trying to make a comeback.

The Coen Bros, Raising Arizona, O Brother, Fargo, Big Lebowski. I think I guess what I love about them is their unique dialogue and of course it takes the talented actors to pull it off and the directors to present their vision. Basically, yes, I agree, they're geniuses.

I know what you mean, the Coens use such great actors. John Tutturo is unbelievable, even when he has small roles he's great. I loved him in Miller's Crossing, and he's hilarious as "Jesus" in the Big Lebowski. Also, check out Barton Fink, that's a wonderful role for him as well...

And Steve Buscemi, he's great too.. Loved him in Fargo, he's great in everything he does. John Goodman is pretty good too, he shines as Walter in the Big Lebowski, and he does a good job in Barton Fink too...

Speaking of the Coen Bros... did anyone happen to see "The Man Who Wasn't There"? I thought it was quite excellent... all that cigarrette smoke with the black and white photography... beautiful...

I didn't get a chance to see that yet, I've been dying to. The theatres around here don't carry it :( i have to wait until rental i guess..

Also, I'm sure all of you have seen this movie by now: Being John Malkovich - - I love this gem from Spike Jonze!! I found it both incredibly original and hilarious...

I am a Coen brothers freak . . . make that SUPERfreak. Hell, take a look at my board's banner!

Luckily the Coens sidestepped the potentially disasterous reception of Hudsucker to make four amazing flicks, all of which were in my top 5 of their release years. (fargo, lebowski, o brother, man who wasn't there) <p>---------------------------------------------------<BR>Check out <a href=http://db.etree.org/aenematron>My Show List</a>!</p>

I consider myself a Coen Bros. freak, because I've seen everything from fargo to blood simple, but MY GOD - - I have not seen the Hudsucker Proxy!!! I don't know what it is, but, I can NEVER seem to remember to rent that... I don't care how bad the reviews were, its a Coen movie, so I assume its at the very least decent.. I don't know why I can't cram it in my head to see that but... I will sooner or later :)
