I had forgotten how much I loved the book until I saw the trailer the other day. From what I could tell it looked awesome, and it seems like Tim Burton captured how (I feel cheesy using this word but I'm going to anyway) enchanting the book was. I'm there.

He's one of my favorite directors. Yes, POTA sucked. But this is the man that made "Edward Scissorhands" and "Ed Wood". Cut him some slack.
I meant to read the book. Sauce bought it for me to read, but she read it first and I haven't gotten around to reading it. It's not very long. Maybe I can squeeze it in before the movie is released... Who am I kidding? It's the holidays...

Anyway, I want to see the shit out of it.
A friend of mine was a PA on the set. He thinks it's going to rock.

yeah, the book is relly good. It has a feel similar to those Tall Tales and Legends cartoons that were big in the late 80s (hellacious?).

I still cannot get over that Helena and he had a baby and named him, "Billy". I can't stand that when kids are just given a nickname. Bah!

I can't wait to see Big Fish. It looks like another Tim Burton masterpiece. I love his films such as Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hallow, and Beetle Juice. Tim Burton is so imaginative. I am definitely going to see it the day it comes to theaters, Christmas Day.

Any Thoughts?? -- FritzLang

I hear it's slightly manipulative. A friend of mine said that she couldn't get into it. I'm going to go see it. Another friend told me that she cried a lot during it, so it definitely sounds like one of those films. I really don't expect Burton to make another Ed Wood, but I still go see his films. And PotAs looked cool, but did indeed sort of suck.
My DVDs

After seeing just a few ads and reviews, I was expecting a visual stunner with a scrawny side order of a plot to frame it, and that wasn't the case.

I ended up being a bit disappointed by the lack of a WOW visually and pleasantly surprised by the substance of the plot (obviously, I hadn't read the book beforehand - I suppose any story involving a dying family member can be considered "a little manipulative").

Without spoiling with anything specific, Burton's accomplishment for me was his depiction of the characters in the stories being told -- they never looked, or were, exactly the same from one telling to the next and I thought that showed a great & unique understanding and appreciation of storytelling.

Just saw it last night. I agree with rodeoclown, it was a little visually dissapointing. But with more substance than expected. Over all I was a little dissapointed. I had hoped for a more amazing visual style (I do say MORE amazing, it was pretty cool visually). Pretty good movie overall.

I live in northern Virginia, near Washington D.C., and it wasn't playing in many theaters, which surprised me. I had to drive a little ways to see it.

i can see where people are coming from when they say its manipulative. but man if so i loved being manipulated. it felt like burton had his heart right on his sleeve, for all to see, and i just loved it. im rooting for albert finney to pick up an oscar for this. and alison lohman has the most beautiful face ive ever seen, in this movie at least.

I read an interview where Burton said that he toned down the ending so it woulnd't be too hokey. He made mention of crying at the end of films... and said that if he's on a plane, he'll cry at the end of anything. I think he said he cried at the end of "The Hulk". :)
Anyway, seems like he said he toned it down a bit.

One of the most beautiful films I've ever seen.

And I felt inlove with Marion, here.
