<!--EZCODE QUOTE START--><blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>call me an optimist, but...
it doesn't seem like Wes is leaving Touchstone permenantly. maybe Sony has the rights to Mr. Fox and Touchstone doesn't. I would be very surprised if Wes doesn't go back to Touchstone for his next live action movie.<hr></blockquote><!--EZCODE QUOTE END-->

I imagine that this is indeed a one-picture deal, but I wouldn't be surprised if Anderson moved to Revolution permanently. The studio is owned and operated by Joe Roth, who used to run Touchstone. He is the one who brought Anderson to Touchstone in the first place. He set up the deals for <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>Rushmore</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> and <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>Tenenbaums</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END-->. Anderson himself bought the rights to <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>Fantastic Mr. Fox</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> from the Dahl estate. He packaged the project, brought it to Roth and asked him to produce.

Yeah, wasn't Roth the one who was such a BR-fan that he brought RM to Disney?

BTW, what about BRthe2000man's suggestion for the "Fantastic Mr. Fox"-forum? <p>------------------

I wonder if Wes and Noah got the idea to do this from Anjelica Huston who once did a movie based off a Roald Dahl book called "Witches" (on the life aquatic set perhaps?) Just a thought... <p>"And I realized that not only did I not want to answer that question, but I never wanted to answer another water sports question, or see any of these people again for the rest of my life"</p>

Wes has been talking about doing a Roald Dahl adaptation fof a long time. remember the NYT article? he said he's been interested in Dahl since childhood.

Hmm, not sure how I feel about this. I hope this is just one of the projects he's developing. I'm no film snob--I'm not even knowledgeable enough to qualify--but I was hoping to see Wes do something more ambitious for his next project.

Not that this will be disastrous or shallow or easy by any means. But a stop-motion Dahl adaptation has been done before with decent results (I hear). Plus, Wes just came off another comedy that uses stop motion creatures. A stop motion Dahl film also reeks of even more quirks, quirks, quirks, with less emotion and thought behind them.

It's like Wes is increasingly afraid of human characters. Not that his characters ever felt like "real" people, but they always felt like they had souls. Within Wes' world they were rich and vibrant characters (Dignan, Max, Blume). With Tenenbaums, what we know about TLA (at least being another huge ensemble film), and now Fantastic Mr. Fox, Wes is content to deal with more superficial, cartoonish characters defined by quirks.

Wes has a such a gift for storytelling. Lucid, subtle, moving, thoughtful storytelling (a la Truffaut). I think he should apply it to more complex, problematic or unique pursuits

Am I alone here?

According to this Variety article the future of Joe Roth's Revolution Studios is in doubt. Money quotes:
Over the next two years, Revolution will release 13 pics -- all of which are either completed or in various stages of production -- via its distribution deal with Sony.

But the future of Revolution beyond that is up in the air; the company has ceased developing films as it tries to figure out its future.
Remaining on the Revolution schedule are "Freedomland," starring Julianne MooreJulianne Moore and Samuel L. JacksonSamuel L. Jackson, and directed by Roth; "Benchwarmers," starring Rob SchneiderRob Schneider and Jon Heder; "Click," with Adam Sandler; "Zoom," starring Tim AllenTim Allen and Courteney Cox; the Wayans brothers' "Little Man"; the untitled Julie Taymor musical; "Rocky Balboa"; "No Place Like Home"; the horror pic "Wind Chill"; "Brothers Solomon," starring Will Forte; "Next," starring Nicolas Cage; and "Perfect Strangers," with Bruce WillisBruce Willis and Halle BerryHalle Berry.

The last film of the batch is expected to be announced next week.
Let's hope that last film is going to be Mr. Fox.

in a Feb 2006 interview fo blackfilm.com

Joe Roth (Revolution Studio Head): "Yeah, Wes Anderson, Noah Baumbach, who just got nominated for "The Squid and The Whale" wrote "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" and he's in Paris working for a while on an animated film for us, "The Fantastic Mr. Fox", and also next year,..."

a brief mention is better than no mention.

Hi folks.

Sorry if this wasn't mentioned elsewhere.. but here's some (small) news for you all:

This article/interview states that it'll be out in 2007.

http://www.forbes.com/celebrities/2006/ ... mbach.html

Though an underdog in the Oscars race, Baumbach himself is no Cinderella of the film industry. He is the son of Village Voice film critic Georgia Brown, and movies were an integral part of his childhood. He wrote and directed three other films, Kicking And Screaming, Mr. Jealousy and Highball, but it was The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, which he co-authored with Wes Anderson, that launched him in Hollywood. Anderson produced Squid, and now the two are working on an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Fantastic Mr. Fox, due out next year.

Well, it's assuring, to say the least.
