I'm heavily addicted to Built to Spill's new album. It's very good.

Hawkesley Workman... yeah it's a bit corny at times but wow, what an incredible singer! and his songs are so beautiful, kind of quirky too.

My fave track : "Its a long life to be longing" closely followe by "Paper shoes"

The new Phoenix album, It's Never Been Like That, is pretty sweet. Very light, catchy, and summer-ish! It's not as electronic, mechanical, and dancey as their other stuff. "Rally" is my favorite song.

Toto Coelo - I Eat Cannibals

What a fun song.

at the moment i have been addicted to ian dury & the blockheads and elvis costello & the attractions.

and there's a band called an albatross who are insane, check out their myspace... and yes, the new built to spill is great.

oh, and i went and saw hugh cornwell from the stranglers play, so i've been playing a lot of their stuff too, especially 'always the sun'.

on edit: has anyone checked out sharon jones and the dap-kings? saw them live and it nearly tore my face off. that was easily one of the best shows i have ever seen.

I bought her first record and really liked it. I've yet to see her live, though.

I've been listening to Sonic Youth's "Rather Ripped" and the This Heat box set a lot lately. And Bjork's soundtrack to Drawing Restraint 9 - I'm not really a Bjork fan, but she doesn't really sing on it and it's more arty, so I like it. The first song, with Will Oldham singing, is gorgeous.

I love the new Sonic Youth. I saw them the other night, it's about the ninth time now, and it was one of the best shows I've seen. Mark Ibold of Pavement is playing with them.

Fort Worth Texas's The Theater Fire has an amazing record called Everybody has a Dark side. Kind of like if Leonard Cohen penned some songs with Will Oldham while fighting in the Civil War. Or not.

Cat Power's The Greatest is also pretty amazing.

The Brave and the Bold, Bonnie Prince w/ Tortiouse (sp?) sounded like a novelty at first but it's great just like every other Will Oldham record.

currently listening to:

... the greenhornes, and i really like them. they're so... i dunno... 60's, 70's, somehow. totally dig them.

... the season 2 battlestar galactica soundtrack because i'm a total geek. but it really is fantastic. :)

... ella fitzgerald... i have you're the top on repeat, because i really love the "i'm a worthless check a total wreck a flop" line...

... and pj harvey...

my winamp playlist SO doesn't fit together... :???:

The Midlake album is great isn't it? I was dubious when I read it was a 70s-inspired concept album, but I've been listening to it non-stop over the past couple of weeks. Apparently - and this makes all the difference for me obviously - they are Jason Lee's favourite band.
But seriously I'm going to see them live tomorrow, hope they live up to expectations!

And don't get me started about the Boosh - I love it! Everyone needs to watch it. Naboo commands it.

That's one of my top ten favorite songs ever. I want it to end the next Wes film. I want it in my wedding. I just hope it's never used in some sappy car insurance ad montage or something.
