he was mentioned in a lot of topics but still hasn't his own.
i was always interested in his work since he's such a big influence on wes but haven't gotten around to see one of the films until yesterday.

i saw The Last Detail on German TV and loved it so much. nicholson is so good in it. it's one of those 70s flicks where you don't know why the hell it's so good and why films like that are just not around anymore. the film seems to me so "simple", like ashby had a crew of three and the actors with him travelling around shooting it, yet it's so deep and impressive.

can anyone tell me at which point nicholson says that famous "let's shag ass" since i've seen the German dubbed version (they did a pretty good job dubbing films 30 years ago, way better than they do now) only.

now i'm really hyped and want to see more ashby. i think i'll get Harold And Maude next.

Jonathan Demme introducing Harold and Maude last week at Lincoln Center. I've only watched part of it but it might be of interest to Demme/Ashby fans.

Very cool. Thank you. I posted it on the main page.

I never knew that there was a Brazil-esque battle over the final edit of the film.

It's actually Mule that says "Let's shag ass." It happens quite early in the movie, right after Buddusky and Mule receive the assignment.

As for more Ashby, you should check out Coming Home as well. It's more somber, but a great movie. My dad told me to watch it, and the movies he recommends usually disappoint me.

I saw Harold and Maude for the first time last night and really liked it.
The cat stevens songs go really well with the movie especially in the end. Bud Cort was really funny in it.

The only Ashby film I've had the pleasure of seeing is SHAMPOO wich remains as one of my all time favorite films.

I haven't seen the rest of his though I've attempted to track them down but the only blockbuster in town only carries Shampoo. : /

Just watched The Landlord. Very enjoyable. However, I still haven't seen any one of his films that tops Harold and Maude (it's my favourite film of all time bar none so this is no easy feat). Coming Home is also a great one.
