first i would like to say hello to everyone since im new here. :D its nice to find a friendly and interesting place to discuss all these wonderful movies and talented men.

anyway, i was just watching some old interviews on wilson-brothers.com,
and here http://www.wilson-brothers.com/owen/SNSKvideo.htm
there was this interview of owen on letterman in 2000, and letterman asks him if he fought a lot with his brothers. and owen says yes and then proceeds to tells him this story that reminded me immediately of the fight of the 3 whitman brothers on the train.

its much better watching him tell it, but to summarize.... he says that they were getting ready to go on a important meeting to see if they were gonna make bottle rocket, and that they all lived together... and as he was getting dressed he put on one of luke's pants, and it seems that luke is touchy about his stuff, so he orders him to take off the pants.... owen angrily obliges, taking off the pants and throwing them hard in luke's direction, a button or something hits luke right in the face, so luke charges him, leding to a big fight. and andrew who was mad at owen for some other reason used the excuse of breaking the fight apart to hit him as well.

i think we can pretty much assume this story was the inspiration for that scene, dont you agree?
i loved darjeeling and i really like that scene, the throwing of the belt was just great, anyone who has siblings know this is how these fights happen. so it was nice to see it was apparently based on a true story. :)

Hah! Great find. And welcome to our little community.

I watched the movie with my brother, and during that scene, I couldn't help but think of some of our own skirmishes when we were younger.

I'm the youngest of three sisters myself, and I've found there's a lot I could relate to in the dynamics between those three Whitman brothers. It's in the little things, the way they look at each other, react to one another, and they have to love each other despite everything. That's what I find so great about this movie, the way it shows these typical siblings dynamics.
My relationship with my sisters is better than the one of the Whitmans. But sometimes I think that when we'd be all in this tiny traincompartment for days things might turn out to be quite the same.
