I read this a few days ago, and it has bothered me.
Fox was planning to release it as a major holiday tentpole, but decided to dump it on their indie division and just sort of let the thing die. Some are theorizing that the thing is a disaster based off the first picture revealed, but after this new one, even though a friend of mine called it “disastrous looking, like someone made a movie about Howard the Duck’s cousin”, I think it looks fantastic.http://postavant.com/2009/07/the-fantastic-mr-fox-looks-fantastic/
I have known these facts, that the film's release date was moved around and that it was handed over to Searchlight, but I never read into those changes. Searchlight has a better handle on grassroots marketing than its big sister studio, it seems, but I can see how the release date and possibly a smaller marketing/advertising budget (?) might be considered a downgrade.
