Hi, this is my first visit, so please excuse this question if it has already been asked. At the end of the Robert Redford film "Jeremiah Johnson," the title character raises his arm and spreads his fingers in a sort of salute to a Crow Indian while also showing his teeth in a smile/grimace. It is exactly the same gesture and expression that Eli Cash uses in the scene where Royal spots Eli climbing out of Margot's bedroom window and shouts, "I know you, asshole!"
Given that Eli writes books about the old West, and that Wes already has an homage to another film ("Witness") in that same scene, I thought it might not be unreasonable to theorize that they he and Owen decided to pay homage to "Jeremiah Johnson," too. I looked for info on this and did not find any.
