i posed this question in the middle of another thread, but it never got an answer so i'm posing it here.

towards the end of the movie, in the montage shown of all the different hotel rooms (when anthony calls the hotel lookin for inez) they show all kinds of people in rooms. in the last or second to last room before he finally gets ahold of inez there's a guy sittin at a table assembling a telescope or gun or something.

anybody know what he's up to?

it's pretty insignificant, but since i'm kinda obsessed with BR thought i'd ask anyway.

I thought the first few times I saw that part that it was a gun he was putting together. Then, when I realized it was a telescope, I wondered if Anderson wasn't making some quirky joke. It seems like it would be funny to panic and think, "hey, that guy's got a gun!" but it's really just a telescope...
Do I remember it correctly? He is assembling it on the bed, right? <p>" He flew the coop while we were sleepin'!"</p>

well I guess I'm the only maroon who thinks el telescopo was a gun?
maybe...
you know that song, "the stars at night, are big and bright. deep in the heart of texas!"
maybe it's a homage to his homestate?
that's a super stretch, I know.

No, I'm with you shoeshine, I thought it was a gun the first time I saw it. It was only the first but hey, I'm not that far off.

When I first saw it I thought it was a guy assembling a gun say reminiscent of say...Lee Harvey Oswald (Dallas is nearby remember) <p>You don't see many women who like Tabasco.</p>

not that it really matters, but upon yet another viewing, i think it's just a camera, set up on a tripod.
