I just saw Bottle Rocket for the first time. I ordered the DVD on-line and I wasn't let down. It's another film I will watch over and over. What is the actor's name that plays Future Man? Isn't he in Rushmore?

ahem, they won't shoot civilians.

Future Man (a.k.a. John M******horpe) is played by Andrew Wilson, the oldest brother. In Rushmore he was Coach Beck.

In TRT he was Margot's real dad.

He has also put in appearances in Charlies Angels 1 and 2, Zoolander, Serving Sara, The Big Bounce and I can't think of the rest.

He's in alot of Luke's and Owen's flicks.

He's also co-directing the movie Luke wrote, see the Luke thread for info on that.

"Sometimes I stop and think how strange this all is. Dogsblood, now that you've seen Bottle Rocket, I feel like you've been initiated. . . like you've just swum through the Fires of Mount WannaHockaLoogi!

I thought he was Coach Beck but I wasn't quite sure. So he is a Wilson brother? What a family! There is something about the way pronounces his words. Wes "Just thinks he's right for the parts."

Thanks Dudleyfan for the initiation chant. I have been inspired to erect a shrine to Wes Anderson in my closet......no, make that my front porch.

PS I love Inez

Yeah,
He's the oldest brother.
Another interesting tidbit: In TRT, it's his hand with the BB in it. Owen shot him when they were little...

Oh, oh, oh.....

He's also the Tennis Commentator, when Baumer cracks up. I forget, was he Tex or was that Wes?

"Sometimes I stop and think how strange this all is. I think AW is Tex, and WA is not. I think WA says that he's there with Tex Hayward. Have you ever seen anyone flip out like this, Tex? Yeah, CF, that seems right.

^ (All of those abbrev. remind me of Good Morning, Vietnam: And then we'd all be put on KP.)

WAY OT-but urgent:
Okay, so Dawson's Creek is on in the background here, and they've recreated the 'everybody dance to Motown in the kitchen' for teenagers. Dawson's Creek has ripped off The Big Chill. Off to the rant thread. I have a pocketful today.

"I'm losing my fucking mind. Use contractions, goddammit. Those crazy kids. What's next? Are they gonna rip off the part where Kevin Kline agrees to sleep with Mary Kay Place to fertilize her womb...I don't know how Pacey, Dawson & Joey could survive.

back on topic:
I wish I could watch Bottle Rocket (and Rushmore, too) again for the first time. I don't think there have been many times when I have watched a movie I not only loved right away, but felt like I had really connected with on such a personal level. (sniff)

Well, now I gotta go rob a bookstore! It's just like old times today!

[After a shoe shine.]

I watched BR last night for the first time in months and I gotta say, I still think it's the best Wessie film (beating Rushmore by the slightest of whiskers).

Because I hadn't seen it in a while I was coming at it pretty fresh and it was almost as surprising as the first time I saw it. So pure.

This time I really noticed Inez's facial expressions. She's very funny and underrated.

Afterwards I watched TRT and while I still love it to bits, overall I don't think it hangs together as well as the other two. Maybe Wes was being a bit too ambitious in terms of everything he wanted to put in it. Plus at times Mark Mothersbaugh's score really grates. But those are my only criticisms.

B: Are you saying I should just abandon my brother?
D: Yes!
A: No, Bob.
D: No!

I think in TRT he was after something different than the previous two films. Rushmore is by far my favorite but with TRT I sat there with my bottom jaw on the floor the whole movie because I had never seen any thing like it at all. I liked Bottle Rocket a great deal but in terms of film making it was elementary compared to Rushmore and TRT..........Hold on.......I'm bracing myself for the reverberations from that last comment. Sorry, that's just my take. :cheers

hey dogsblood,
I know you are probably kidding in the above post, but don't ever feel like you have to apologize for your opinions. this is a pretty friendly board and I think most of us like to have a variety of opinions to work with, just so that it doesn't get boring.

I think that a great many of Wes' fans would agree with you. It makes total sense that BR was not as sophisticated as TRT. The guy had several years worth of experience under his belt and a lot more clout by the time he began making TRT.

oh nevermind...it made sense in my head.

You make sense on the board, too, shooooooosh.

I recently read an article on Neil Young (I promise, once this is all over, I won't talk about him so much) where he said that he does a lot of different things once. That way, every time he tries something, it's fresh. Like Bottle Rocket, kind of. The lack of sophistication is something that makes it so great. I, for one, am tired of sophistication and polished edges. Gimme some knicks and scrapes and character, please.

Well I know Wes' films are more sophisticated visually as he goes on, but I don't think my any stretch of the imagination that the writing in BR is unsophisticated. I think the writing is better on BR than TRT.

And I think maybe on second thoughts that I like Rushmore & BR equally. Probably.

And I like TRT a hell of a lot too. I saw it 8 times at the cinema so maybe it's a case of overkill. Who knows.
